ZALMA -- A 16-year-old Bollinger County resident was critically injured late Tuesday afternoon when the pickup truck he was driving overturned five times on Bollinger County Route H, six miles north of Zalma.

Authorities said the driver, Louis Montgomery of Advance, was taken by helicopter from the accident scene to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

At 11 p.m. Tuesday, Montgomery was listed in critical condition in the hospital's surgical intensive care unit. A passenger in the pickup, Shane Morgan, 15, of Marble Hill, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the accident occurred when Montgomery attempted to steer the truck back onto the highway after it ran off the edge of the pavement.

The accident occurred at 5 p.m.
