JACKSON -- Incumbent Jeanette Bollinger and newcomer Marvin Adams were elected Tuesday to the Jackson School District Board of Education.
Bollinger, a retired programming assistant with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, received 1,921, or 40 percent of the vote to lead the three-candidate race.
Adams, an insurance agent and former educator, garnered 1,462 votes to edge Mark Martin, who received 1,398.
Adams said Tuesday the board has worked hard during the past several years to make the Jackson School District a quality district, and that he looks forward to serving with the other board members.
"No doubt about it, one of the good things about Jackson is its school system, and the fact that it has been a good system over the years attests to the kind of board we've had," he said.
"We've got another good board in a long line of professional people who have served, and I just feel privileged to be able to serve with them."
Adams said the voters' rejection Tuesday of a tax levy increase for the district will be a major obstacle for the new board.
"Just from the information I've had from one of the previous board meetings, this is going to constitute some cuts," he said. "We're just going to have to look at the recommendations from the administration and go from there.
"The best I can tell by the budget, is we appear to be in pretty good shape for '92-93. But in the future we'll have to take some hits."
Adams said he isn't sure whether he would support putting the measure before the voters again in the near future.
"I was for it this time, because I felt like it would keep us from having to make those cuts and keep our budget in good shape," he added.
In Jackson municipal elections, all four incumbent aldermen whose terms expire this month ran unopposed for re-election.
In Ward 1, David Ludwig received 263 votes; in Ward 2, Philip Johnston received 318 votes; in Ward 3, Glenn Oldham received 375 votes; and in Ward 4, Lee Roy Brown received 243 votes.
