The affected area is east of Shawnee Boulevard, all of Greensferry Road north of Clark Street, all of Shawnee Circle, Old Cape Road east of Corinne Street, Francis Drive east of Shawn Drive, and the Indian Hills Subdivision east of Royal Drive, the release stated.

The order was prompted by two water-main breaks Monday morning, according to the release.

Residents affected by the boil order need to take precautions when using water, the release stated:

  • Boil water for three minutes before using. Use only boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and all other food preparations or consumption. Important note: Allow water to cool sufficiently before drinking.
  • Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from an automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled.
  • Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersing them for at least 1 minute in clean tap water that contains 1 teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
  • Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing or using backyard pools to make sure water is not ingested. Anyone with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult a physician.

Residents with questions or concerns may contact the public works department at (573) 243-2300 or the water-distribution department at (573) 243-5595, visit www.jacksonmo.org or connecting with the city at www.Facebook.com/JacksonMO.
