The Cape-Perry Public Water Supply District No. 1 is under a mandatory boil order after the Missouri Department of Natural Resources reported it found high levels of fecal coliform or E. coli contaminant in the water supply.

The boil order affects northern Cape Girardeau County along or near U.S. 61.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources urges that drinking water be boiled vigorously for three minutes. Ice cubes and automatic ice-makers from unboiled water should not be used. Disinfect dishes and other food-contact surfaces by immersing them in clean water that contains one teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water.
