HICKMAN COUNTY, Ky. -- Authorities believe they found the body of a missing Sikeston, Mo., man Tuesday afternoon. According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Capt. Jim McMillen, farmers on four-wheelers found the body of 84-year-old Jimmy Eugene Payne about 3 p.m. Tuesday in Hickman County, Ky., two miles south of the Fulton County line. Authorities identified Payne by identification found on the body. He was found about 10 miles from where his cellphone was last tracked Monday morning. McMillen said they learned late Tuesday afternoon that Payne's vehicle was found 1.2 miles from where the body was found. The vehicle was stuck in a snowy field, and Payne appeared to have walked away from the vehicle in search of help. Payne was reported missing Monday by his daughter. "The daughter reported that she last spoke with her father Thursday morning by cellphone. Other family members reported the same difficulty in reaching their father," said McMillen, DPS public information officer. Authorities were searching for Payne in the Fulton County, Ky., area where some family members once resided.
