CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Police in Carbondale are investigating the death of a Southern Illinois University graduate student whose body was found on campus.

SIU spokesman Rod Sievers said the body of 31-year-old Huaijun Meng (Hue-eye-juhn Ming) was found shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday in a creek near Wright Hall.

Sievers says police haven't yet determined how long the body may have been in the water.

Meng was a graduate student from China, studying electrical and computer engineering.

The campus' public safety department doesn't have immediate comment as it investigates the matter with Carbondale police.

Sievers said an autopsy is planned.
