The Cape Girardeau Fire Department may have found the body of a Chaffee, Mo., man who disappeared after a boating accident on the Mississippi River Wednesday night.
Around 9:20 a.m., a water search team with the fire department found what may be the remains of 39-year-old Gregory Jobe washed up on the shore of the Mississippi River, just south of the location of Buzzi Unicem, fire department personnel reported.
The body was found during a surface scan of the waters in the area where Jobe disappeared Wednesday night. Jobe was fishing near the banks of the river from a 12-foot johnboat late Wednesday night with his brother, Shawn Jobe, 41, also of Chaffee, when the boat struck a barge docked just south of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge and capsized.
Shawn Jobe was able to grab hold of a barge and wait for rescue, but he couldn't save his brother, according to Shawn Jobe's accounts of the incident.
Gregory Jobe's family has been notified of today's discovery. The Cape Girardeau County Coroner was performing a preliminary examination of the body this morning before it was taken to the morgue for further examination. Family members will help identify whether the body is in fact Gregory Jobe's, which should happen this afternoon.
