The Jackson Board of Education got a preview of the drama department's upcoming show "Dearly Departed" at their meeting Tuesday night.

Cast members Bethany Elfrink and Daniel Hooks acted part of a scene from the comedy about a dysfunctional family whose father dies and causes the family to come together in support. The show will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27 in the Jackson High School auditorium.

Assistant superintendent Dr. Rita Fisher announced that the calendar quarter ends Friday. She said parent-teacher conference attendance rates were above 95 percent at elementary schools and about 65 percent in the upper grades. She also announced that the high school will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Nov. 9.

Assistant superintendent for finance Dr. James Welker said that this week is National School Lunch Week and presented a sheet for parents with tips on how to eat right and exercise. He said that about 860 breakfasts and 3,063 lunches were served a day in Jackson schools last year.

Superintendent Dr. Ron Anderson gave an update on construction at the high school, saying block laying is taking place inside the events center, roof decking is going up on the band room and the actual roof is being placed on the art building.
