"Every May, the railroad has a week of safety-oriented programs designed to educate our employees, their families, and the public on safety efforts made by the railroad," Lape said. "This year, we are offering two programs that will be open to the public. On Monday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., we'll present programs on water safety and free boat inspections."

Lape said with the approaching summer water season, it is ideal to focus on water safety and boat safety inspections.

On Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the railroad will offer high-rail vehicle rides on the railroad tracks, and tours of BN locomotive engines, a caboose, and a business railroad car that will be spotted near the yard office. Programs on Operation Lifesaver, home fire safety and firearms safety will also be presented. Hot dogs and soda will be served during the event.
