Gov. Matt Blunt will join volunteers from the Cape Area Habitat and Big Brothers Big Sisters to work on a Habitat for Humanity house Saturday in Cape Girardeau.
Also scheduled to be present Saturday are Mayor Jay Knudtson, United Way of Southeast Missouri members, construction suppliers, contractors and current residents of Cape Girardeau's 26 Habitat homes.
People who buy Habitat homes earn ownership equity through volunteering to work during the building process.
Cape Area Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a not-for-profit community investment corporation promoting affordable housing. Simple homes are built using donated land, supplies, labor and money.
Individuals volunteer, as do people from churches, charities and businesses.
Habitat's current goal is to build and sell 25 new houses in the next five years.
The latest Habitat home is at 1116 Cousin St. The governor is scheduled to visit and work from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. To learn more, visit www.capeareahabitat.org or the Habitat office at 334-9728.
