POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- As a Poplar Bluff man recovers in a local hospital, his wife is in jail facing felony charges for allegedly shooting him in the head while he was sleeping.
Kenneth Ray Dowdy, 57, of the 2200 block of Fair Street is listed in good condition at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus and is expected to be transferred from the hospital's intensive care unit into a regular room, according to a hospital spokesman Monday.
His 41-year-old wife, Sandy Kay Dowdy, was charged with the Class A felony of first-degree assault over the weekend by Butler County Prosecutor Attorney Kevin Barbour. Bond was set at $250,000 cash at that time.
Barbour filed an amendment with the court Monday morning adding the unclassified felony of armed criminal action against Sandy Dowdy. Her bond remains the same.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred at about noon Saturday.
