With an increase in accidents both on the road and in the water, summer safety is a top priority -- so is maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply. The Red Cross is preparing for a challenging summer, as blood and platelet donations traditionally decline during this time of year.
According to David Palmer, territory manager of donor services for the American Red Cross, reserves of O-negative type blood are critical at this time. To compensate for the shortage, four blood drives in Jackson and Cape Girardeau have been planned:
From 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the American Legion Hall, North High Street, Jackson.
From 2 to 6 p.m. May 23 at Main Street Fitness, 410 W. Main, Jackson. There will be a recognition item for all donors.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 at National Cash Advance, 2136 William St., Cape Girardeau.
From 1 to 5 p.m. May 26 at Cape West 14 Cine, 247 Siemers Drive, Cape Girardeau. There will be a recognition for all donors.
For more information call the American Red Cross at 339-1822.
