The blood drive is part of the Southeast Missouri State University organization's second annual Watermelon Bust. Last year, nearly 350 units of blood were collected. This year's goal is 500 units.

Other activities in the Watermelon Bust include a watermelon eating contest, a watermelon marathon, a greased watermelon pitch, watermelon seed spitting contest and a watermelon line dance.
