Scott County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Blodgett, Missouri, man Monday who tried to convince a 12-year-old girl to be complicit in a sexual act, police said.
The Scott County Prosecuting Attorney’s office charged Daniel David Roland, 51, with enticement of a child and attempted child molestation.
A Missouri Children’s Division investigator alerted deputies to a hot-line report of sexual abuse July 18, according to a probable-cause statement from Scott County sheriff’s detective Jessica Martin. The child said she had fallen asleep in bed with Roland — a relative — waking up to him telling her it would not hurt if he kissed “down there,” Martin wrote.
The girl was interviewed Saturday at Beacon Health Center, and she repeated the story, according to the statement. During the interview, the victim said she moved away from Roland, then asked to go to her mother’s house, Martin wrote. Roland allowed her to leave after originally saying no, according to the statement.
Martin talked to Roland on Aug. 1 and he said he could not take back what he said to the victim but that he was sorry, according to the statement.
