ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Interstate 70 is moving again in suburban St. Louis after a bridge demolition project temporarily halted traffic.

Officials brought down part of the westbound Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles around 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Traffic didn't resume until crews had a chance to check for debris on an adjacent bridge that carries eastbound traffic over the Missouri River.

That eastbound bridge also will handle westbound traffic while the demolished bridge is rebuilt. The speed limit also will be lowered over the span.

The project carries a cost of $63 million. The rest of the old bridge will be demolished with a second blast, possibly next month.
