The Cape Girardeau School District has planned a number of opening day activities for Tuesday when students begin classes at Blanchard Elementary School.
Students and staff will kickoff festivities at 9:15 a.m. parade from the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg to the school north of Sprigg and Bertling.
At 9:45, Central High School trumpeter Andrew Rehbein will play "Revelry" and American Legion Post 63 will conduct a flag-raising ceremony. Central High School student Rasheda Wilson will sing the national anthem.
The building cornerstone will be laid during the event, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. Superintendent Dan Steska, principal Barbara and school namesake Barbara Blanchard are scheduled to make comments during the ceremony.
The opening ceremony will be followed by a brunch sponsored by the Student Council in the school gymnasium.
The public is invited to attend the event.
