BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County commissioners said during their regular meeting Tuesday that county road department crews will commence this year's blacktop maintenance program Monday.
Roads will be marked, Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn said, "but people need to pay attention and watch out for workers. People need to be aware."
Presiding County Commissioner Jamie Burger said the county hasn't set a specific number of miles set for this year's program.
"It depends on the roads that we do; how bad they are," Burger said.
Commissioners said there will still be no new blacktop roads.
"We're still resurfacing, addressing existing blacktop," Burger said.
The county has 310 linear miles of roadway -- among that, 170 miles of blacktop -- to maintain, Ziegenhorn said.
The commission budgeted $600,000 for this year's effort, which has been about the same for several years, Burger said.
The budgeted amount goes mainly toward materials because the county has it's own hot-mix asphalt machine.
