Black Forest Villages will present a fall harvest theme when it celebrates its fourth annual Octoberfest Oct. 8-9. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
This year's Octoberfest will feature traditional working crafts such as basket weaving, blacksmithing, broom making, a leathersmith, quilting, wood carvers, pioneer furniture makers, a loom weaver and other arts and crafts.
Activities for children include pony rides, a straw-bale maze and various games. In addition, demonstrations are scheduled to enable children to learn about crafts from the past.
Kettle corn, fresh pork rinds, bratwurst, grilled chicken, funnel cakes and corn dogs will be part of the Octoberfest menu.
Visitors will be able to stroll through the village of New Hanover with its 1870s replica boardwalk and witness craftsmen dressed in period costumes amid the surroundings of the Black Forest.
The Black Forest is four miles north of Cape Girardeau on County Road 638. From Highway 61, follow Route W to the stop sign, turn right and go across the bridge, then turn left and watch for the signs.
