George Curry, editor-in-chief of the National Newspaper Publishers Association News Service and BlackPressUSA. com, will deliver the annual Michael Davis lecture at Southeast Missouri State University on Feb. 10.

The lecture, which recognizes the contributions of blacks in the media, will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom as part of the university's celebration of Black History Month.

The event is named for Michael Davis, a mass communications student who died from a fraternity hazing incident at Southeast.

The department of communication and minority student programs will sponsor the lecture. Admission is free and open to the public.

Prior to joining NNPA, Curry was editor-in-chief of Emerge: Black America's Newsmagazine from 1993 to June 2000.

He is the immediate past president of the American Society of Magazine Editors and the first black to hold the association's top office.
