An accident involving a dumptruck, a backhoe and a flatbed car hauler Thursday at Kingshighway and Broadway left the driver of the car hauler injured.
The driver of the car hauler, James B. Headrick, 35, was treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital and released.
Cape Girardeau police reported that the driver of the dumptruck, Christopher P. Nussbaum, 30, was issued a summons for running a red light. The dumptruck was towing a flat bed trailer carrying a back hoe.
The accident occurred at 8:20 a.m., tying up morning traffic for quite a while.
Police said that Nussbaum was driving south on Kingshighway when he ran the red light and hit the car hauler. Headrick was driving east from the Capital Bank parking lot, crossing Kingshighway.
The dumptruck hit the car hauler in the left side, causing the car hauler to spin 180 degrees, jump a concrete median and then hit a traffic sign, police said.
The dumptruck hit a concrete traffic light base and the trailer it was pulling jackknifed and overturned. The backhoe fell off onto its side, said police.
The accident was one of a dozen that Cape Girardeau police investigated Thursday morning.
