JACKSON -- The Evening Optimist Club of Jackson will conduct its annual bicycle safety rodeo on Sunday. Bob LeFebvre, bicycle safety chairman, said the rodeo is designed to teach youth and motorists the basics of bicycle safety.
The safety rodeo will be directed by Bob Hull of the Jackson Police Department and members of the Jackson Evening Optimists. The event will include bicycle registration, skills tests and inspections.
The rodeo is being sponsored in cooperation with Girl Scout troop 187 which will award bicycle safety helmets to recent winners of poster contests conducted in the area fifth grade classes.
The bicycle rodeo will be held in conjunction with the St. Francis Medical Center health fair from 1-4 p.m. on the Heartland Plaza parking lot on East Highway 61, adjacent to the St. Francis Information Center. Area youngsters are encouraged to bring their bicycles.
The bicycle safety rodeo is an annual program of Optimist International. Larry Ream is president of the Jackson Evening Optimist Club, which meets Tuesdays at 6:45 p.m. at the K.C. Hall in Jackson.
