Marcus Engel, a best-selling author and speaker, will present "The Other End of the Stethoscope -- A Tribute to Health Care Professionals" at 2 p.m. April 14 in the Rose Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University, a news release said.
Engel's story of recovery after being blinded and catastrophically injured by a drunken driver challenges people to achieve success by making intelligent choices, the release said. He will discuss how techniques may be applied to treat patients and how to discover small things that make a big difference in care, the release said.
Engel wrote "Everyday Inspiration," "After This: An Inspirational Journey for All the Wrong Reasons," "The Other End of the Stethoscope" and "I'm Here: Compassionate Communication in Patient Care," the release said. The event is sponsored by the Department of Nursing and made possible by a grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health.
After the presentation, a book-signing will be held, and refreshments will be available, the release said. RSVP to Desma Reno, assistant professor of nursing, at dreno@semo.edu or 651-2939. For more information, contact Dr. Ann Sprengel at asprengel@semo.edu.
