NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. -- A Bernie, Missouri, man was jailed Monday afternoon following a wreck that left two Stoddard County residents injured, the Daily Statesman reported. Travis D. Stone, 36, was charged by the Missouri State Highway Patrol with two counts of second-degree felony assault and failure to yield. The charges were filed after Stone reportedly failed to yield at the intersection of Highway 60 and Route E in New Madrid County just after 5 p.m., striking first a westbound vehicle driven by Scott P. Harding, 31, of Dexter, Missouri, then striking a southbound vehicle driven by Jacob G. Dial, 54, of Sikeston, Missouri, before coming to rest. Sustaining minor injuries in the wreck were Crystal L. Thomas, 34, of Bernie, a passenger in the Stone vehicle, and Harding. Both were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston. Stone was uninjured, but his vehicle was deemed a total loss. Stone was charged within an hour following the wreck. He was taken from New Madrid County to the Pemiscot County Jail, where he remains without bond.
