Benton teen injured in traffic crash

ORAN, Mo. -- A Benton, Mo., teenager suffered serious injuries in a traffic crash Monday in Scott County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. Larissa G. Hawthorne, 16, was driving a 2001 Honda Accord east on Highway 77 in Oran shortly after 5 p.m. Monday when she attempted to make a left turn and pulled into the path of a northbound 1994 GMC Topkick driven by Patrick J. Kiefer, 53, of Chaffee, Mo., the patrol reported. Hawthorne suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Kiefer was not hurt, but his vehicle sustained moderate damage. The Accord was totaled, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
