BENTON -- The 27th annual Benton Neighbor Day will be Sept. 1 and 2 at the city park.
Some lucky Benton residents could win $5 just for saying, "Howdy, neighbor" to a selected member of the Benton Chamber of Commerce.
Activities begin at 5 p.m. Friday with registration for prizes. Sky divers will appear at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Other events include a Little Mr. and Miss Neighbor Day contest at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by the Neighbor Day Queen contest.
On Saturday, activities begin at 10 a.m. when the midway opens. A parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by an Antique Car Show.
A greased-pole climbing contest for children begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and the talent show starts at 7 p.m. The greased-pig chase begins at 10 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by Southland on Friday. Charlie's Music Revue Sound System will provide music for the dance at 9 p.m. in the community building.
Members of the local 4-H chapter will display exhibits from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and again from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the old school building across from the park.
Neighbor Day is sponsored by the Benton Chamber of Commerce and also involves area churches and clubs. Proceeds from the event will be used to finance community projects and a scholarship.
