According to the news release, Counts and his girlfriend got into an argument Monday afternoon at their home when Counts came home from work. Counts allegedly assaulted her and forced her into a vehicle at knifepoint.

Lt. Steve Young of the sheriff's department tried to stop Counts' vehicle near the home. Counts allegedly drove back home and ran into the house, slamming the door on Young, causing Young's hand to go through glass in the door. Counts then exited through another door in the house, and he was found a short time later hiding in a brush pile near the house.

Young's cuts required stitches, according to the news release.
