The Cape County Chapter of the American Red Cross, KWKZ-FM and J Hangin' C Productions will host Western Dance Days at Stroder Country in Jackson June 18.

Jack C. Watt, event coordinator, said the event is being held to raise funds to purchase a disaster services van needed by the local Red Cross chapter.

"During the flood of 1993, last November's flash floods in Southeast Missouri and recently the levee break at Miller City, Ill., the chapter's 1976 van traveled in excess of 80,000 miles," said Mary Burton, executive director of the local chapter. "Understandably, our present van is in considerable disrepair, and in order to service our communities in time of disaster, the need to replace it is imperative," said Burton.

Western Dance Days will feature country dance lessons, lunch, a dance, silent auction and prizes. KWKZ-FM will broadcast with a live remote from the event and give away gifts.

"The public can tune in to CD Country 106.1 for more details and pay close attention to "As The Tumble Weed Tumbles" being broadcast between through June 18," said Eric Harper, KWKZ-FM Account Executive.

Several local businesses are donating food and gifts for the event.

Stroder Country is a country music dance hall at 1820 Old Toll Road in Jackson. Live music will be provided by the band, The Driskills.
