Tracy C. Bender of Cape Girardeau graduated in June from the University of Chicago with honors in her class and department. She received a bachelor of arts degree in history, philosophy and social studies of science and medicine on June 15.
Bender has accepted a position as project coordinator at the University of Chicago Hospital's department of anesthesia. She also accepted a position as assistant volleyball coach at the university.
At the university, Bender was a four-year varsity letter-winner in volleyball and was named to the all-conference volleyball team in fall 1990. She participated in volleyball in the 1989 Olympic Festival.
After spending a year in anesthesia research, she plans to return to school to study a science.
She is the daughter of Tim Bender and Glenda Masterson and the stepdaughter of Brenda Bender and Mike Masterson.
