The company requested that the local high schools spend the money on educational programs, equipment or capital improvements.

The contributions were generated by local customers $2 at a time. Every time a customer bought a new Southwestern Bell Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Three-Way Calling or Speed Calling-8 service, Southwestern Bell agreed to donate $2 to the schools.

The program ran from Oct. 17, 1994, through May 31. Statewide, 82 schools are receiving a total of $123,000.

A wholly owned subsidiary of SBC Communications Inc., Southwestern Bell provides voice, video and data communications through 13.2 million access lines in Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.
