JACKSON -- Laura Beggs, a Republican candidate for Cape Girardeau County Clerk, said Sunday she does not know why her seven-day campaign finance disclosure report isn't on file with the clerk's office.
The report was due last Tuesday. Late Friday afternoon a deputy county clerk said reports for Beggs and another candidate hadn't been filed. That information was reported in Sunday's Southeast Missourian.
But Beggs said she mailed her report to the county clerk's office the same time she mailed a disclosure report to the Missouri Ethics Commission. Beggs said she was told by staff at the ethics commission that her report was there on time.
State law requires candidates for legislative seats, judicial posts and for county clerk to file with the ethics commission in Jefferson City and in their home county.
Candidates for other county offices and local offices file with the county clerks in their home counties.
