Becky Kies was named the 1995 Woman of Achievement by the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau at a ceremony Tuesday.

The award is presented annually to a woman who exemplifies the ideals of Zonta in improving the legal, political, economic and professional status of women.

Kies was chosen because she has dedicated herself to family, career and self-improvement. She is involved in service to other women, youth, her church and the community.

Kies and her husband, Dr. Richard Kies, have three children and are members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. She is an operating room nurse and has held several positions at St. Francis Medical Center.

She is a member of several social and professional organizations, include Sigma Theta Tau, the Association of Operating Room Nurses, the Safehouse for Women Board of Directors, and the B&B Investment Club.

She is involved in several activities at Cape Central High School, including the All School Booster Club.

"I feel it's important to give a part of yourself to the community," Kies said. "I feel comfortable getting involved and doing things to make a difference."
