The Southeast Missouri Beagle Club will host a American Kennel Club rules seminar this weekend in Cape Girardeau.
George Pirman, president of the United Beagle Gundog Federation will conduct the seminar today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon.
The seminar will be held at the Drury Lodge, at the intersection of I-55 and Route K. Registration begins at 7:30 this morning in the Missouri Room. The cost for the two-day event is $20 per person.
Tom Schulte, president of the Southeast Missouri Beagle Club, said the purpose of the seminar is to educate individuals on the various aspects of judging AKC field trials, and to promote the high standards in the beagle breed and develop field champions.
Any individual who judges a AKC field trial must complete the course to be officially certified by the AKC as a field trial judge.
"We're expecting beaglers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri to attend the seminar," said Schulte. "To be able to host the seminar is something our membership is proud of, but when you get the opportunity to have the national president of the UGBF conduct the seminar, that is a big plus."
