The Better Business Bureau plans to hold a "Shred Day" Saturday at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau.
From 8 a.m. to noon, visitors will be allowed to shred up to three boxes of sensitive but outdated documents at no charge. The BBB asks that whatever container is used -- box or bag -- can be shredded along with the contents.
The event is designed to help consumers avoid identity theft. It's recommended people shred documents containing financial information, account numbers, PIN codes, birthdates or Social Security numbers.
