CAIRO, Ill. -- The Ohio River bridge at Cairo was closed to traffic for three hours Tuesday afternoon when a 24-barge tow struck the bridge's pier. Two barges were damaged in the crash. A load of corn in one of the barges had to be transferred to another barge.

Following the accident, the barge pulled into the Cairo port.
