As a prelude to Cape Girardeau's BBQ Fest later this month, there will be a barbecue training session and "practice cook" Saturday after at Cape County South Park, Shelter 20.
A training session will begin at 2 p.m., with ribs and burgers on the grill. The "practice cook" will be at 3 p.m.
Charlie Knote will instruct. Persons are asked to bring their own equipment.
The sponsor, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Committee, is still seeking entries for the Aug. 20-21 BBQ Fest, to be held at Arena Park.
Knote pointed out that cooking teams (which can consist of a single person) must be amateur. Any type of grill can be used, though the cooking surface can't exceed 800 square inches.
For entry information on the BBQ Fest, call 335-3312.
