BARBECUE CONTEST IS SET AT KENNETT

KENNETT -- The Kennett Jaycees are now accepting applications for the Show Me State Championship Barbecue Cook-off to be held June 26-27 in Kennett.

The 11th annual competition is officially sanctioned by the World Championship Barbecue Contest, Memphis In May.

The Kennett event is sponsored by Wickers Barbecue Products, Bradley Distributing Co., KNNT-KTEI Radio, the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co., Perkins Buick-Pontiac-GMC and McDaniel Firestone.

In addition to the overall winner being entered in Memphis In May, cash and prizes totaling over $3,500 will be awarded.

The contest has competition in the three categories of whole hog, pork shoulder and ribs. The first-, second- and third-place teams in each category will receive cash prizes, and overall winner prizes will be $500 cash and five Magnavox 13-inch color televisions.

There is an entry fee of $50 per category.
