BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- A bank robber made off with at least a couple thousand dollars, but not before dropping more than that while making his getaway, Belleville police said.

The robber handed a note announcing a holdup to a teller at United Missouri Bank in downtown Belleville on Tuesday morning. As he ran from the bank he spilled more than half his take -- some $3,500 -- and dropped his costume straw hat and glasses.

A police dog tracked the robber's scent for a block and a half to where police believe he escaped in a car.

The man does not match the description of another robber who struck a second Belleville location of the bank Aug. 9.
