Bankers' hours aren't what you'd expect.
That's one thing Greg Steffens, president of Southern Missouri Bank, wishes he'd known when he got into the banking business. The same is true for Steve Taylor, president of First Missouri State Bank. The hours — "you don't get off work at 3 p.m." — and not everyone's nice to you, Taylor said.
US Bank president Bob Francis got into the profession when disco killed his musical career. Dennis McIntosh gave up a career as a lawyer to become president of Farmington's Ozark Federal Savings & Loan Association.
Their paths took different twists and turns, but the destination was the same: leading Southeast Missouri's banking community. This month in Southeast Missouri Business Today, presidents of local banks spill the details of their careers and share their thoughts on where the banking industry is headed.
Coming June 16, the special package includes reports on the financial health of 30 Southeast Missouri banks as well as stories about national banking trends.
Profiles of more than a dozen top bank executives will be featured in the special banking issue. The following banks have yet to provide information to Business Today, and the deadline has been pushed back until noon today.
