SCOTT CITY -- A new band director, basketball coach and business teacher have been hired at Scott City Schools, said Superintendent Bob Brison.
The three were hired at a closed school board meeting Tuesday, Brison said.
"These aren't new positions, but ones that have been vacated" he said.
Band director will be Joni Jones, who replaced former director Sarah Burbank. Jones is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and is currently teaching in Richmond, Calif. She is a native of Wyoming, Ill.
James Derek McCord, a native of Wardell, will become the basketball coach. McCord will also teach physical education and health, Brison said.
McCord has a master's degree from in fitness and exercise physiology from Memphis State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education, history and science at Arkansas State University. He is currently employed at the Wimbledon Sports~plex in Memphis. He previously was head junior high basketball coach/physical education instructor at Munford Elementary School in Munford, Tenn.
Brison said Donna Lutes was hired as a business teacher. Lutes had been put on temporary leave last year because of budget constraints, Brison said, and was rehired for the position.
