Joe Bob Baker was sworn in last week as the new Ward 4 Jackson alderman. Baker is a co-owner of B & B Auto Salvage in Jackson.
"I look forward to the prospect of serving the people in Jackson and very much look forward to working with the mayor, the seven other council members and the city staff," Baker said. "I will bring the perspective of a small business owner here in Jackson, to this office."
Baker's family has owned and operated B & B since 1960. Baker has worked there for more than 25 years. He and his wife Joy have raised two children, Ryan and Kandra.
"I am extremely proud of the leadership shown by the mayor and the current city council and have bee impressed by the dedicated hard work of the city staff," Baker said. "All of us in Jackson should be very proud of the accomplishments we have made."
"Joe Bob's business experience and his genuine interest in Jackson's continued progress will be assets to the board of aldermen and the community," said Mayor Paul Sander.
Baker hopes to represent the small business owners as well as other Jackson residents, as the city continues its rapid growth.
"I have concerns about small business owners here in Jackson and believe that the successes we have achieved have been in great part because of the small business people here," he said. "I know there are some concerns from our senior citizens and I know changes can be hard. I believe it is important for our city to maintain its small town atmosphere while we enjoy the benefits of controlled growth."
