Voters in Chaffee Tuesday faced the unusual prospect of voting for council members in two wards that had no candidates.
That left the door open for Brad Bader to win a two-year term in Ward 4 with a single, absentee write-in vote. No votes were cast in Ward 2.
Chaffee voters also selected three school board members among seven candidates.
When the ballots were counted, William G. McFerron led the pack with 481 votes. Randy Dooley finished second with 429 votes, and Wayne C. Pressley rounded out the winners with 292 votes.
Other candidates were Alvin M. Vandeven, 235 votes; Kelley Stafford-Petitt, 221; Kathy Kinsey, 160; and Candy Witcher, 89.
The only contested Chaffee City Council election, for Ward 3, had John Hampton beating Norm Gribler, 96 votes to 42.
In uncontested races, Ron Escew won a two-year term to Chaffee's other Ward 3 seat, and Jerry D. Wolsey won an unopposed race for Ward 1.
Sikeston council picked
In Sikeston, Terry Bryant and Bill Mitchell were elected to the City Council, beating out Peter Myers Sr. Bryant ended up with 1,206 votes, Mitchell had 987 and Myers received 841.
Five candidates vied for three, three-year terms on the Sikeston school board. The winners were Randy Bohannon with 1,508 votes, Charles E. Buck with 1,290 votes and Ellen C. Brandom with 1,219 votes.
Other candidates were Charlotte York, 1,146 votes, and Louis Wiggins, 705 votes.
In the vote for Scott County Special Road District commissioner, a three-year term, Mark Deanne easily defeated Jackie James, 1,620 to 457.
And in the race for Scott County Ambulance director, also a three-year term, Shirley Tetley garnered 181 votes to Vaughn Baker's 149.
Commerce board set
Commerce voters Tuesday picked three village board members among four candidates for two-year terms.
The winners were Alan Wright with 30 votes, Bud Vetter with 28, and Bob Kight with 26. The other candidates, Marie Mayberry received four votes.
Wilhelm Benton alderman
Benton voters on Tuesday picked Mary Ann Wilhelm over Van Harris, 31 votes to 22, for a two-year term as Ward 1 alderman. Rick Klipfel won an unopposed race for Ward 2.
Kelso picks 2 to board
In a close election for two seats on the Kelso Village Board, Ann Glueck received 77 votes and Chuck Miller got 75.
Kelso voters also picked three members to the Kelso C-7 School Board at New Hamburg. The winners were David Harper with 275 votes, Joe L. Schwartz Jr. with 238 and Rodney Dock with 242. Charles Goodale was defeated, getting only 159 votes.
Conn mayor of Morley
In Morley, voters elected Randy K. Conn to a two-year term as mayor. Conn received 84 votes, double those of his opponent Douglas M. Brashear, who got 42 votes.
In the race for three, three-year terms on the Scott County Central school board, Patty Burton got 245 votes, Marvin Walton 210 and Kelly Campbell 202 to knock off Doyle W. Canady and Tim Monroe. Canady received 134 votes and Monroe got 112.
Bollinger on top in Kelly
In the race for three seats on the Kelly School Board, Cindy Bollinger, Teresa Dewitt and Sonny Scheffer won three-year terms in a tight race.
Bollinger received 303 votes to Dewitt's 299 and Scheffer's 274. The other candidate, David Felter, received 255 votes.
Barnes picked Miner mayor
Miner voters selected a mayor Tuesday, with Betty Barnes easily beating Donald Holman, 212 votes to 146.
In the race for a two-year term as Ward 1 alderman, Norma Tatum edged Terry Cole 116 votes to 110, and in Ward 2, Allen Towe defeated Tom Brock 80 votes to 60.
