B. Wallingford's case continued until February

A Cape Girardeau man charged with driving while intoxicated and assault last fall had his case continued until next month to allow lawyers more time to exchange information.

Brandon S. Wallingford, who was arrested Oct. 5, was not in court Wednesday, which Judge Michael Bullerdieck made acceptable when he granted a motion to that effect from defense lawyer Allen Moss on Dec. 20. Bullerdieck set Wallingford's next appearance for Feb. 6.

Wallingford, 40, was arrested after the 1999 Honda CRV he was driving rear-ended another vehicle stopped at a traffic light. He faces misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs and assaulting a law enforcement officer.

After officers took Wallingford back to police headquarters, police said he became belligerent and resisted attempts to put him into a holding cell.
