Two Southeast Missouri Hospital nurses Pamela R. Selinger and Patricia J. Isaacs have been awarded Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary scholarships for advanced study in nursing. Each scholarship is for $2,500.

Selinger, Southeast's Central Service Director and infection control practitioner, is the recipient of the new BSN scholarship.

Selinger, currently a student in Webster University's BSN program, holds an associate degree in nursing from Jefferson College and has attended Southeast Missouri State University. Following completion of her BSN degree, Selinger plans to pursue a master's degree in public health.

An employee at Southeast for the past four years, Selinger's responsibilities include management of the hospital's infection control and prevention program as well as management of Central Service. That nine-member department's daily operations include equipment reprocessing and sterilization activities.

Selinger's professional memberships include the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control; American Society for Healthcare Central Service Personnel; and the Planning Committee for a new Infection Control course for the state of Missouri. She is also recording~~~~ secretary for the Southeast Missouri Consortium on AIDS.

Isaacs, who received the auxiliary's scholarship for graduate study in nursing, is continuing her work toward a master of science degree in nursing (clinical nurse specialist - cardiopulmonary). Isaacs, who was also last year's scholarship recipient, is a student at St. Louis University.

At Southeast, Isaacs' duties include coordination of all in-patient dialysis and service as a charge nurse in the hospital's Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units. Isaacs received her associate degree in nursing in 1978 and her BSN in 1988 from Webster University. She is a Certified Nephrology Nurse and a Trauma Nurse Specialist.

In addition to her work at Southeast, Isaacs serves as president of the local chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She holds membership in the American Nephrology Nurses Association.
