Applications are open for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Community Health Promotions Awards Program in Missouri.

The program is conducted nationally to recognize significant health promotion efforts and to honor the community groups that have developed and implemented the programs.

The Missouri Department of Health is sponsoring the program at the state level. Applications are due Dec. 21.

The Award for Excellence in Community Health Promotion improves community health status by stimulating greater participation by voluntary and professional associations, other community groups and public agencies in communitywide health promotion efforts.

The Award for Community Leadership will recognize exceptional volunteer leaders for their work in promoting health and advocating healthy behaviors in low-income/minority communities.

State winners will qualify for national competition.
