American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 of Cape Girardeau is sponsoring four students to Missouri Girls State.
Missouri Girls State, which will be held on the William Woods College campus June 16-22, is sponsored by the Missouri American Legion Auxiliary.
Attending will be Christy Vandeven, Cathy Klueppel, Andrea Adams, and Rachel Horton.
Vandeven is a student at Notre Dame High School, where she is a member of Students Against Driving Drunk, pep Club, Pro-Life, and has attended Freedom Forum and Government Day at Southeast Missouri State University. Her contributing organization is The Exchangettes of Cape Girardeau. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vandeven, 1700 David.
Klueppel is a student at Notre Dame High School, where she is a member of the Pep Club, Concert Choir and is the varsity cheerleading captain. She was named to "Who's Who Among American High School Students." Her contributing organization is the Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klueppel, 3214 Chateau Dr.
Adams is a student at Notre Dame High School, where she is a member of Students Against Driving Drunk. She also enjoys riding and training horses and has been a member of a swim team for four years. Her contributing organization is Cape Girardeau Rotary Club. She is the daughter of Riley and Connie Adams of Scopus.
Horton is a student at Dexter High School. She is a member of the volleyball team, a cheerleader and a member of the student council. She was named Miss Dexter High School queen and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter and the Louis K. Juden American Legion Auxiliary. Her contributing organization is the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 of Cape Girardeau. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Horton of Dexter.
Emily Hastings, Jamie Propst and Gwenda Bennett were picked as alternates to Girls State.
Six hundred girls from Missouri will participate in this 50th session of Missouri Girls State.
