The child's uncle had already found the unresponsive toddler in the overflowing bathtub when a neighbor one floor below came upstairs to tell the family water was seeping into the apartment, said police spokesman Bob Murphy. An autopsy conducted Thursday showed drowning was the cause of death, Murphy said.

Police interviewed the child's mother and uncle who were home at the time. The case remains under investigation to determine whether negligence was involved.
