Auction reflects a lifetime of farming

Clem Gartung, who recently died at 91, left an estate of farm equipment and antiques from the farm he spent his lifetime on. Gartung began his career in agriculture farming with mules -- later transitioning to motorized equipment. Most of the farm machinery was purchased new and shedded.

The auction of Gartung's estate begins at 9 a.m. Saturday between Dutchtown and Whitewater, with antiques, collectibles and household items going up for sale. By noon farm machinery including a red 1954 M Farmall; a CIH CX90 tractor with cab, air conditioning and only 550 hours on it; and a 1H 966 tractor with only 2,800 hours on it will be on the auction block.

Five tractors and four trailer loads of household items and antiques will be in this sale.

Along with hay equipment, a like-new 411 New Holland disc mower conditioner will be available when farm machinery is up for sale.

A portable air compressor, four- and five-gallon crocks, galvanized tubs and a John Deere bottom plow are a few examples of the old tools and butchering equipment collectors might consider purchasing.

From Dutchtown take Route A for 5 1/2 miles to County Road 233; continue for 2/10 of a mile and look for signs.

Brucker Auction Service will conduct the auction.
