PLATTE CITY, Mo. (AP) -- At least three people are dead in weather-related crashes in northwest Missouri, and slick roads have brought the Thursday morning commute to a crawl throughout the region.
The weather is blamed for numerous accidents in western Missouri and eastern Kansas, while some schools are closed or delaying the start of classes.
The highway patrol says 18-year-old Kelsey Ryan of Platte City died late Wednesday after her car crashed into a semi on southbound Interstate 29 at Missouri 92 at 7 p.m.

A half-hour earlier, 58-year-old Richard Turner of Trimble was killed on U.S. 169 in Clinton County when a southbound truck slid head-on into Turner's car.
In Ray County, 29-year-old Thresa Youtsey of Richmond lost her life at 7:25 a.m. when her car skidded into the path of an 18-wheeler on Missouri 10.
