The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host "The River Heritage Quilters' Guild Annual Exhibition" beginning Friday at Gallery 100.
The opening reception for the show will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the galleries.
About 20 of the 100 members of the guild have contributed quilts or wall hangings for the exhibition. Mary K. Reed of Jonesboro, Ill., is chairman of the exhibition.
Merle Deneke, president of the guild, said these aren't the quilts your grandma used to make.
"They are much more pieces of art instead of scrappy quilts," Deneke said. "We would never use them on the bed."
The group is making a quilt to present to Southeast Missouri State University in April on the occasion of the school's 125th anniversary.
The guild will celebrate its own 10th anniversary in March. All of the members are women and most are over the age of 40, although a 10-year-old girl is a member.
