The Southeast Missourian asked people what they thought about the Jackson Board of Education's plan to develop an alternative education program for at-risk students to would eliminate in-school suspensions.
Betty Brooks: "I think that anything that would help the students do something constructive with their time should definitely be considered."
Desma Reno: "It would be a good idea as opposed to a detention program. It would be more meaningful to the student since it would enhance their learning."
Cheryl Hanschen: "I think it would be a great thing for everybody; for the student in trouble and for the other students too. It takes just one student to disrupt the education of all the others."
Paula Andrews: "I think it would help the students to be made to stay in school, in a controlled environment, and to do their work without being able to talk to their friends.
Dan Stover: "We need a place for students to be put when they are a distraction to the classroom. Some students seem to thrive on being disruptive to others, and a more structured environment would help them."
